Weekend Edition

Had kind of a shitty weekend…my head just wasn’t in the right place. Yesterday fell apart pretty fast, at least in the healthy eating and productivity departments. I think every one of my meals was bought from a restaurant. FAIL.

And today I almost had an anxiety attack, which hasn’t happened in a really long time. No idea what brought that about, but I thwarted it with a quick run and a mini-WOD at home. Again, my food choices weren’t that spectacular today, but I didn’t eat a whole lot, so I’m pretty sure I stayed below my budget.

Looking forward to a good night’s sleep to reset my mood for what is going to be a very busy week.

Monday 9.13.10

I’m really proud of myself for going for a run after work tonight. The rain had stopped and it was a weird mix of cool, yet humid air outside. I walked home from the train at such a high intensity that it made me want to go right back out and run 4 miles. So that’s exactly what I did!

The best part about my run tonight was that I did it in two sections, only stopping to catch my breath for about 30 sec between each 2 mile set. I also really enjoyed that fresh smell of wet trees and plants that only occurs after a thunderstorm (yes, sometimes NYC smells nice after it rains). It really made me long for autumn evenings after thunderstorms in Ohio. You can take the boy out of the Midwest… ;-)

I’m excited to go to my 3rd cross-fit class tomorrow morning. I still need to work on my jump roping skills (or lack there of) so I’m going to try and get there 5-10 minutes early and practice.

Good night!

Saturday 9.11.10

After missing my race this morning, I was hell bent on making up that distance before going into work today. And since I want to improve my performance at cross-fit and keep those muscles loose, I decided to put together my own “lite” WOD for the day. I focused on some of the areas that I need to correct, like my air squat technique and my endurance for push-ups / sit-ups. It was a great WOD and really helped me focus once I got into the office at noon.

But after 8 hours of editing, I really just wanted a beer and to see some good friends. So I headed over to Williamsburg and had a few drinks on the roof top of Berry Park. I limited myself to 3 beers, but they were big ones, and I’m pretty sure that alone tipped the scales in my daily calorie battle.

The bacon avocado cheeseburger from the diner at the end of the night was just a bad idea. That’s what happens when you try to skip dinner calories in favor of a few alcoholic beverages. Never smart.

DAYS 10.5 - 12.5

I’ve been so overcome with the excitement of my first vacation since mid February that I’ve gone rogue. This entire past weekend was filled with over-eating, usually coming at the end of the day. I got a run in on Sat afternoon, but because of the junk I ate and drank the night before, it was a pretty paltry effort. Only 3.4 mi at a little over a 9:00/mi pace. That was about all I could muster. Especially after having to pound out 11 burpees for that day plus the previous day that I missed.

I’m flying out to northern Michigan early tomorrow morning for about a week, & internet access will be limited. I’m actually really excited about this. There are lots of activities planned, such as camping, kayaking, canoeing, swimming, hiking, a wedding, biking…it’s going to be one hell of a great time out doors. Oh yeah, and how could I forget running? I’m really looking forward to seeking out dirt trails and gravel roads that go around a body of water, leaving the sounds of traffic and crowds of people far behind.

I’m going to do my best to keep the calories in check. Staying with the girl’s parents means relatively healthy eating, but I won’t be control of the menu. Also, I’m going to do my weigh-in a day early (tomorrow) so that I can use my scale and not skip a week of WIW. I’m already anticipating a gain from last week, but we’ll see how things unfold…

Between the packing, laundry, cleaning for our apartment sitter, and the Yankees v. Tigers game tonight in the Bronx (go Tigers!), I’ll need to work in a run and 15 burpees…because I didn’t do any yesterday. Grrr….

DAYS 8.5* - 9.5

Yesterday was a high calorie day according to my zig-zag rotation, and it couldn’t have come on a better day. I was ravenous the entire day. I couldn’t stop eating. So it wasn’t hard to reach my goal of 2,555 calories. Getting those 3 burpees in before going to bed however, was a bit of a challenge. But I’m glad to say I did them.

As for today, I couldn’t wait to go for a run after work since I missed it yesterday and overslept this morning. Unfortunately, I went pretty far over my calorie budget. Now I just have to get those damn burpees out of the way!
