Monday 9.13.10

I’m really proud of myself for going for a run after work tonight. The rain had stopped and it was a weird mix of cool, yet humid air outside. I walked home from the train at such a high intensity that it made me want to go right back out and run 4 miles. So that’s exactly what I did!

The best part about my run tonight was that I did it in two sections, only stopping to catch my breath for about 30 sec between each 2 mile set. I also really enjoyed that fresh smell of wet trees and plants that only occurs after a thunderstorm (yes, sometimes NYC smells nice after it rains). It really made me long for autumn evenings after thunderstorms in Ohio. You can take the boy out of the Midwest… ;-)

I’m excited to go to my 3rd cross-fit class tomorrow morning. I still need to work on my jump roping skills (or lack there of) so I’m going to try and get there 5-10 minutes early and practice.

Good night!

DAYS 10.5 - 12.5

I’ve been so overcome with the excitement of my first vacation since mid February that I’ve gone rogue. This entire past weekend was filled with over-eating, usually coming at the end of the day. I got a run in on Sat afternoon, but because of the junk I ate and drank the night before, it was a pretty paltry effort. Only 3.4 mi at a little over a 9:00/mi pace. That was about all I could muster. Especially after having to pound out 11 burpees for that day plus the previous day that I missed.

I’m flying out to northern Michigan early tomorrow morning for about a week, & internet access will be limited. I’m actually really excited about this. There are lots of activities planned, such as camping, kayaking, canoeing, swimming, hiking, a wedding, biking…it’s going to be one hell of a great time out doors. Oh yeah, and how could I forget running? I’m really looking forward to seeking out dirt trails and gravel roads that go around a body of water, leaving the sounds of traffic and crowds of people far behind.

I’m going to do my best to keep the calories in check. Staying with the girl’s parents means relatively healthy eating, but I won’t be control of the menu. Also, I’m going to do my weigh-in a day early (tomorrow) so that I can use my scale and not skip a week of WIW. I’m already anticipating a gain from last week, but we’ll see how things unfold…

Between the packing, laundry, cleaning for our apartment sitter, and the Yankees v. Tigers game tonight in the Bronx (go Tigers!), I’ll need to work in a run and 15 burpees…because I didn’t do any yesterday. Grrr….

DAYS 8.5* - 9.5

Yesterday was a high calorie day according to my zig-zag rotation, and it couldn’t have come on a better day. I was ravenous the entire day. I couldn’t stop eating. So it wasn’t hard to reach my goal of 2,555 calories. Getting those 3 burpees in before going to bed however, was a bit of a challenge. But I’m glad to say I did them.

As for today, I couldn’t wait to go for a run after work since I missed it yesterday and overslept this morning. Unfortunately, I went pretty far over my calorie budget. Now I just have to get those damn burpees out of the way!

DAY 7.5

I packed my lunch today for the first time in ages. I usually pack snacks for my day at work to eat throughout the day (an apple, some mixed raw cashews/almonds/dried cranberries, a protein bar) and then go out to buy something like a falafel pita, a turkey sandwich from Cosi, sushi, or Fage yogurt and fresh fruit. It offers a nice break from my desk and a breath of fresh air in the middle of the day.

But I didn’t mind forgoing the outdoor excursion for a healthy spinach salad with chicken breast instead. I noshed on some carrot/celery sticks with homemade guacamole, blueberries, a protein bar, and an apple while at work and then some homemade turkey meatloaf and green beans for dinner. I also stopped by a friend’s place on the way home for a stoop beer (it’s what we do in Brooklyn!) to let him vent about his shitty job.

Still, I only managed to slightly tip the scales over my budget, so I’m happy with my food intake today.

OH…and I did my 3 burpees to “buy-in” to Ed’s 100 Day Burpee Challenge since I missed the first day.

DAY 6.5

Awesome run today. I averaged a 9:00/mi pace, which is already an improvement from last week. And I kept my calories in check too. It was just an all around good day, despite the fact that I’ve had to spend my entire evening restoring my iPhone 3G. I installed iOS 4 a bit too hastily, and have been regretting it ever since. My phone has slowed to a glacier’s pace, and I have been seriously tempted on numerous occasions the last few weeks to just smash it on the concrete. It’s been that bad. Fortunately, I found this fix instead, and ended up going back to the previous operating system.

But in the process, everything was wiped from my phone, and I lost a lot of information (levels that I unlocked in games, photos, ringtones, etc). The blessing in disguise was going back through photos on my computer to load onto my phone and finding some old fat photos of myself. Why is this a blessing? Because it just reminds me of how far I have come since my heaviest weight of 305 lbs in the Spring of 2000. I might even share them with you because I’m so proud of myself…might.
