WWCD? (What Would Cavemen Do?)
I’ve had a lot of friends ask me recently about the Paleo Diet…what it is, how it works, why I do it, etc. So I compiled a short list of links, along with some things I learned from personal expereince, in an email for them. I thought I’d share it here as well, in case any one of my followers is interested in going primal… Here are some links to give you a general idea...

NYC Endurance: Running Seminar 4.17.11 →
Not only is this going to be an awesome seminar, it’s being held at my CrossFit box :-) I signed up for this over a month ago, and honestly forgot it was happening. But it couldn’t come at a better time since I am starting regular runs again this week. Hope to see some of you NYC runners there!

5 1/2 Months (an update on life)
164 Days. That’s how long I’ve been neglecting this tumblr. That’s like missing an entire baseball season. I’d get on my dashboard and read some posts now and again, but I didn’t really have the time or the desire to post. Granted, I would still cruise FB a couple of times a week, clean out my inboxes, read the news, etc. but I needed a break from life on the...

Good Riddance!
To an unrewarding, frustrating, and stress filled job A consistent bad attitude caused by said job Steady, dull lower back pain from my injury last week Not being able to work out because of said back pain Poor eating choices And since I have this entire week off before I start my next job, I can push the reset button on all of those bad things. Yesterday was my sleep-in, go to brunch with...

I hate writing self-loathing posts because I don’t want my fitblr to bring other people down. It’s not why I’m here. But I have been in a major funk the past couple of weeks, due almost exclusively to my job. Thankfully, it should all be over soon since this gig ends on Friday. I have seriously been counting down the days for a about a month now. And after having to work over the...

Thursday 9.30.10
Today was a complete 180º difference from yesterday. First off, I had my last foundations class in cross-fit this morning. We continued working on correct form and technique for the mid hang power clean and mid hang power snatch. I improved a little bit on the front squat position, so that made me happy. But what really made my day was our WOD…a repeat of the workout from our first...

Cross-fit really kicked my ass today. I haven’t been sleeping well the last few nights, so the idea of powerlifting at 7am was a little tough to accept. But whatever, deal with it and get healthy, right? We learned two new techniques today, both of which are complicated and I am having trouble performing correctly. The first was the Mid Hang Power Clean , followed by the Mid Hang Power...

Weekend Edition
Had kind of a shitty weekend…my head just wasn’t in the right place. Yesterday fell apart pretty fast, at least in the healthy eating and productivity departments. I think every one of my meals was bought from a restaurant. FAIL. And today I almost had an anxiety attack, which hasn’t happened in a really long time. No idea what brought that about, but I thwarted it with a quick...

Thursday 9.23.10*
A very well rounded day yesterday, topped off with a nice dinner at Patsy’s near Union Square with my lady. FYI - It’s not hard to go over budget, even on high calorie days, when pizza is involved. Cross-fit set the tone for a good, productive day, as per usual. After learning how to properly do overhead squats and front squats, we launched into wall ball and...

Weekend Highlights
I’ve been MIA here since last Thursday, so here’s a little insight on what I’ve been up to… I had a rough Friday at work, but ended the night playing poker with friends. I skipped dinner and drank probably 5 bottles of Miller High Life over the course of the next 4 hours instead. Obviously, not a good decision. I ended up eating dinner at 1am in the local diner. Looooong fucking day yesterday. Up at 5:40a for cross-fit class at 7a, work from 10a-7p, then more work on a different project (feature length documentary that’s about to be finished once and for all) until 11p. By the time I got home, had a late dinner, and wrapped things up for the day it was close to 1am.  I’m pretty sure I didn’t reach my high calorie budget either. I was...

Updated Calorie Budget
After recalculating my numbers for this upcoming week, it occured to me that the reason I may have lost so much muscle was becuase…get ready for it…I wasn’t eating enough.  Sounds crazy, but since I was exerting much more energy (thanks cross-fit!), yet still restricting my calorie intake based on my previous week’s results, it would only stand to reason that I would lose...

WIW - PROGRESS?
I’m completely baffled by my weigh-in this week. Since my last WIW, I’ve done 3 cross-fit WODs, gone for two 4 mile runs, and only ate horrendously over budget on Saturday (which, consequently, was one of the days I ran over 4 miles and did a self-prescribed WOD). I try not to let things like this bother me, because ultimately it’s pointless to get worked up over one weigh-in....

Monday 9.13.10
I’m really proud of myself for going for a run after work tonight. The rain had stopped and it was a weird mix of cool, yet humid air outside. I walked home from the train at such a high intensity that it made me want to go right back out and run 4 miles. So that’s exactly what I did! The best part about my run tonight was that I did it in two sections, only stopping to catch my...
